No matter what time of year you choose to visit the capital city of Scotland you'll find a host of activities to enjoy, a hospitable and cultured environment and a history that pervades the very stone of the city's streets.

Whether it's the long nights and balmy temperatures of mid-summers or the darker winter months, if you dress appropriately the elements will be as welcoming as the locals, and even if it is a wee bit nippy, why not warm yourself up with a drop of the world famous local fire water, or whiskey. Good luck in finding a favourite as there are as many different blends as stories you'll hear over a dram.

Edinburgh has a fast expanding international airport that is seeing more and more arrivals every year and two mainland stations and an excellent road network, this means it is a breeze arriving right in the heart of the city, even when flying in from one of the 80 foreign destinations now served.

The city is also a wonderful jumping off point for the rest of the country, whether it be up to the Highlands and islands or a 50 minute trip to the very fashionable Glasgow, the city is definitely a must on any trip to Scotland.

Home to Scotland's premier tourist attraction Edinburgh Castle is a famous landmark the world over and of course the festivals both summer and winter are a great draw.

Hogmanay, or New Year, lasts four days and is family friendly with night walks and street theartes, but for summer time festivities it's the Fringe, held usually in August, that steals the limelight. Anybody in the art world has simply to be seen - either performing or watching - it truly is an amazing event.

So whatever time you decide to come there will be something for you.
